El Complejo Turístico Las Terrazas es un pequeño Edén en el corazón de la Sierra del Rosario, situado solamente a 60 Km al Oeste de la ciudad de La Habana, desde donde se puede hacer el trayecto en alrededor de una hora en auto, Ud. puede ir de visita por un solo día, pero si el lugar lo sojuzga con su serena belleza aquí hay alojamiento y puede extender su visita por 2 o mas días.
Las Terrazas -enclavada en el corazón de la Reserva de la Biosfera Sierra del Rosario que tiene una extensión total de 250.70 Km2 de geografía montañosa y naturaleza exuberante- es una experiencia rural viva de desarrollo sostenible que combina 5000 Ha de bosques y flora y fauna protegida con servicios turísticos y experiencias sociales.
El centro del complejo es un asentamiento semi-urbano flanqueado por un lago de medianas proporciones y con una arquitectura que es un modelo de integración con el medio ambiente circundante. La población total es de alrededor de 900 habitantes y aquí existen numerosas instalaciones de servicios así como un hotel.
Como llegar?
El acceso es por carretera asfaltada, primero por la Autopista Nacional hasta el Km 51 donde se toma la carretera de acceso al complejo. Se puede ir en auto rentado o en traslados en bus contratados en cualquier hotel.
Eventualmente también puede tomar una excursión de un día con almuerzo incluido y costo de alrededor de 42.00 CUC por persona, las puede reservar con una agencia de viajes o contratar directamente en un hotel o buró de turismo.
Que ver?, Que hacer?
En Las Terrazas las actividades recreativas se relacionan todas con la Naturaleza: senderismo, trekking, contemplación de aves, botes con remos y baños en ríos de aguas cristalinas y apacibles, que se pueden combinar con visitas a ruinas de cafetales franceses del siglo XIX o al Orquidiario de Soroa. Es el sitio perfecto para el viajero amante de la naturaleza o que desea relajarse en un ambiente tranquilo de bellos paisajes.
- Rancho Curujey. Se ofrece información completa del complejo, hay un bar y es un mirador con una vista espléndida.
- Centro de Actividades Acuáticas. En el lago a la entrada de la Comunidad (pueblo): puede alquilar botes de remos y bicicletas acuáticas, la pesca de la trucha es permitida pero con devolución al agua de las capturas (catch release).
- Hacienda Unión. Una finca de recreo desarrollada en las proximidades de las ruinas del cafetal La Unión -de principios del Siglo XIX- atendida por una familia campesina, hay restaurant y un hermoso jardín tropical - Jardín La Unión-, se llega por carretera.
- Ruinas del Cafetal Buenavista, parcialmente restaurado, es un mirador a 240 metros sobre el nivel del mar, hay un restaurant especializado y el acceso es por carretera.
- Cultura y Arte: en la comunidad hay talleres de artesanos - cerámica. Serigrafía, tallado de madera- y un museo dedicado a la memoria de Polo Montañés, cantante y compositor lugareño que alcanzo la fama nacional e internacional con su estilo musical único.
- Baños del San Juan, balneario natural sobre el río San Juan que posee piscinas naturales de cristalinas aguas, algunas profundas y con propiedades minero-medicinales. En el lugar hay bar-cafetería y se llega por carretera.
- Baños del Bayate, sobre el río del mismo nombre, hay bar-cafetería y se llega por un terraplén.
- Rutas y senderos, hay 7 senderos delimitados con diferentes grados de complejidad aunque todos son aptos para el turista medio:
1.La Ruta de la Cañada del Infierno. Recorrido a lo largo del cañón que forma el río Bayate donde se pueden opcionalmente tomar baños, pasa por las ruinas de los cafetales San Pedro y Santa Catalina, tiene una longitud de 5 Km.
2. Sendero Las Delicias. Con unos 4 Km de longitud recorre parte de la zona NE del complejo y termina en el Mirador del Valle del San Juan.
3. Trekking el Placer de Caminar. Un recorrido de cerca de 9 Km desde el Mirador del Valle del San Juan hasta el Cafetal Buenavista pasando por las ruinas de los cafetales Santa Susana, La Mariana, Ermita y San Carlos y por las cercanías de los saltos de agua La Joven Niágara y Salto Escondido. Diseñado para la observación de aves, es fácil ver Tocororos, Ruiseñores y Pájaros Carpinteros, entre otros.
4. Sendero La Serafina. Tiene una longitud de 5 Km a través de bosques de galería, pasando por las ruinas del cafetal Santa Serafina, posibilidad de observación de aves.
5. Sendero El Terraceo. Recorrido de 3 Km a través de las terrazas creadas por el hombre en las faldas de las montañas para ser sembradas con árboles. Observación de aves.
6. Hiking El Taburete. Con una longitud de 8 Km este sendero tiene una amplia panorámica de las montañas y valles circundantes, al alcanzar la cima de La Loma del Taburete a 453 metros de altitud se tiene una vista de la costa sur sobre las aguas del Golfo de Batabanó. El descenso termina en los Baños del río San Juan.
7. Hiking Bajo El Canto del Tocororo. Con una longitud de 5 Km se inicia en la comunidad de Las Terrazas y termina en el las ruinas del Cafetal La Unión, atravesando una zona montañosa, boscosa y con abundante avifauna.
Donde comer?
Hay restaurantes en el Hotel Moka, en el Centro de Actividades Acuáticas sobre el lago, en la Casa del Campesino cerca del cafetal La Unión y en el cafetal Buenavista. Además se puede comer en casas particulares en la comunidad Las Terrazas.
Donde hospedarse?
El principal centro de alojamiento es el Hotel Moka de categoría 4 estrellas y que con un diseño exclusivo armoniza naturaleza y arquitectura, tiene 26 habitaciones climatizadas con TV vía satélite, teléfono y servicios de habitaciones, fax, Internet, atención médica, restaurante, bar tienda, lavandería, taxis, parrillada, piscina y cancha de tenis.
Alternativamente se puede optar por alojarse en las villas (5) en casas particulares pero dependientes del hotel, conjugan buen confort con la convivencia con una familia lugareña.
